OUR HOUSE

Wednesday 27 September 2006

So for the past few days I've been looking through adverts online for a room for rent. I don't know London well so not sure on the areas I should be looking at but I'm sure my delicious pal Geyv will help me out when I start viewing places. I actually only really know Wimbledon but as nice as it is it's a bit too far away from the buzz of London and it's like living back in South Africa. English people are a minority there. So I'm thinking Clapham sort of area. I've got loads of time to find a place so I'm not particularly worried plus if the worst of the worse happens and I don't have anywhere I'll be sleeping with Geyv on Geyv's sofa!

Anyway all this was brought on because I've just spotted the below advert and I think that it is quite possibly the best advert I have ever come across. They sound like my kind of people. Shame I'm not looking for anywhere until the end of October. Also after discussing with Mel and Colin who our ancestors were and Mel coming up trumps with having a famous poet and a pirate in her bloodstream, I decided to email my great uncle as he is researching our family tree. Turns out there is a distant connection to this lady in my blood too! Hooray! Yo ho yo ho yo ho ho!

One large room will be available in the next couple of weeks in a large modern house in Brockley, SE4 (Zone 2). The house has five bedrooms, a spare room, a large living room, three toilets, large fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher, broadband, basement (for all your corpse-hiding needs), garden and a balcony perfect for summer evening picnics. Brockley Station (10 mins from London Bridge) is a short walk away, as are Crofton Park Station and St John's Station, there is a night bus to Central London, and New Cross and New Cross Gate tube stations are nearby. The immediate area offers coffee shops, mini supermarkets, take away shops, a park with a stone circle (just in case you're a druid, like), and there is a large supermarket nearby. The house is a bustling -yet perfectly civilised - hive of activity, ranging from the homely to the degenerate, and has hosted craft evenings, late night tea dances, a string of critically acclaimed parties, efnik food days, costumey goodness and much else besides. Potential flatmates should be open to and accepting of alternative lifestyles, and not object to the occasional sight of blood, knitting, bdsm or differing forms of intoxication. Rent is £413pm, all bills and tax included, except for phone line and broadband. Pirates preferred to ninjas, but both will be considered.

The BDSM sounds fun, don't go to Brockley though it sounds like a pain in the arse to get to the centre of town. Wimbledon is way out too. Do you know where you'll be working yet? If it is media/pr type stuff alot of places are based in the west end soho or covent garden. I live in a nice street in Kings Cross. I lived in Clapham North and that was good. If you can find anything zone 1 but not in elephant or castle that you can afford I'd always do that. Lots of people love stoke newington or crouch end but it doesn't have a tube and I can't face the bus for 45mins when you get stuck in traffic. I'm moving to Tufnell park eventually and that was nice. Finsbury park areas are okay and it is good for travelling in to town. Think it is good you are looking a bit later because london is flooded with students looking last minute at the moment. You could maybe take over my room in kings cross when i buy? I love my house. We have a dog and garden. Zone 1. It took me a lot of searching to find.

Hmmmmm if your room is free at the end of Oct I'd certainly like to come and see it.

What are the housemates like? I need to live with social people!

Thank you for the advice - I need all I can get!!

I know it sounds totally awesome but I can't move until the end of Oct and they want someone now.

But they are exactly the type of people I want to live with.
