BIRTHDAY BLUES
Friday 26 May 2006
Being a grown up is rubbish.
I mean when I was at school my birthday party was IT. If you weren't at my party - you were just simply lame. I had some awesome parties and I was a popular kid. Not a nasty one like all the American popular girls seem to be (don't blame me USAuns blame your television shows..) but one that everyone liked.
Now that I'm older I still get excited about my birthday but the magic has gone from it. Now if I want a party I have to book all my friends 4 months in advance and even that isn't enough notice sometimes. Over the last few years hardly anyone has been able to make my do and most upsettingly was last year as it was my 21st and I think about 4 people made it. It makes me feel sad. If it hadn't have been for Silk coming all the way down from Geordie land to spend the day with me on my birthday I think I would've cancelled all future birthdays.
So this year I invited everyone verbally 3 months ago and sent out evites one month ago and the grand total of people who are coming is 5. That includes me, Tilesey and my sister Faye. I hate feeling like I have no friends because I do they're all just ridiculously social, shift workers or stupidly double book things.
There are however two people who I've know since I was 16 who have made every birthday do I've had since and I would like to thank them and send massive kisses to. - they are Giles and James. You are both 'mint'.
Tilesey has a big excuse as he only met me a year and a half ago but I reckon he deserves a big thank you too as we'd only been seeing eachther for 9 months and he arranged a surprise BBQ and night out for me, as well as showering me with gifts and writing the most lovely things in my birthday card.
So now it's just a case of counting down the days (6 btw) until the big day to see if any magic can be redeemed. Tilesey and I have the day off that day so it's a start.
Stupid growned up days.

Is there cake?
Posted by: Nugget at May 26, 2006 01:22 PMwell, this American girl can only recall having one birthday party, ever -- and it was at a restaurant, and the year we were going to be leaving that state anyway.
besides i'm not popular; it's why i'm so sweet ; )
Posted by: amelie at May 26, 2006 04:18 PMSilk - I don't need to invite you - you know that you are ALWAYS welcome whenever you want to visit the warmer climes of the south. I couldn't ask you to fork out tonnes of cash again for me!
Nugget - I hadn't thought about cake. There could be cake. Now I want cake. Marks and Spencers do the nicest birthday cake ever. I'm fussy with my cake - it has to be oh so moist and scrumptious - a rare thing to find.
Amelie - awwww I'm sure you're popular! Save up and come to the Bonny UK and we'll throw you a bash to remember!
Posted by: Celeste at May 27, 2006 04:55 AMRest assured there is a nugget trip planned for down the south in the future.
You are SOOOO my sister as I think marksies cake is the best ever too :D
And Amelie is hugely popular, we just happen to be spread out a little :-/
